Lecture by Mr. Orita of merchu Co., Ltd.

A lecture by Professor Kaede Orita of merchu Co., Ltd. was held on Thursday, December 16th, during the fourth period, in a joint seminar between Suzuki and Sawanobori. merchu Co., Ltd., of which Professor Orita is the CEO, is engaged in branding, marketing, and promotion using SNS, and is currently managing SNS for the Kobe Tourism Bureau and Hiroshima City.

In his lecture, from the perspective of a social media professional, Mr. Nakamura gave an easy-to-understand explanation of the growing demand for social media in the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the reasons why people should use Instagram. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that window shopping is being replaced by information gathering on Instagram. Currently, 83% of shoppers gather some kind of information on Instagram when shopping, and he spoke of the future potential of Instagram, saying that a single post on Instagram could influence someone's decision. At the same time, he emphasized that because Instagram has such a great influence, it is necessary to make sure that the content you post will not offend anyone before posting.

In addition, as part of the "comprehensive plan DAITO SHIMBUN" project, Professor Orita also conducted a "PDCA cycle check" (a review) on the articles posted to "DAITO SHIMBUN" (Instagram version) so far (related articles on this project are published on PickupNEWS. In the second half of the lecture, the top nine posts based on "likes" and "saves" were shared on the screen, and the advice given was "make sure to include a human body (even if only partially) in the photo," "use eye-catching colors," "enrich the amount of information," "it's important to grasp trends and keep information fresh," and "use hashtags effectively." All of the advice given was immediately usable. In particular, regarding the last hashtag, he said, "It's good to combine a big word with more than 100,000 search hits (for example, "#Daito City") with a small word with around a few thousand search hits (for example, "#Daito City Gourmet").

Finally, a message from Professor Orita. "Always include the student's perspective. Do your best to aim for 'Like! 50!'" There are so many things he taught me that I can't write them all here. Thank you so much, Professor Orita!
